Bowlby’s Theory of Attachment
A
- One primary caregiver
- critical period of 2.5yrs
- Separation anxiety
- Maternal Deprivation: If it occurs during critical period , may be problems with child’s development. e.g. Affectionless Psychopathy

Rutter’s Theory of Attachment
A
- Privation is far more damaging
- Privation is when an infant never forms an attachment
- If child never forms an attachment, there is nothing to replace.

Schaffer & Emmerson’s Stages of Attachment
A
- Person who plays and communicates with infant is more likely to form an attachment.
- Preattachment: 0-3months. Respond indiscriminately.
- Indiscriminate: 3-7months. know unfamiliar and familiar faces but go to everyone.
- Discriminate: 7-9months. Develop attachments. Shoe stranger anxiety.
- Multiple: 9months. Strong emotional ties with other caregivers.

Ainsworth’s Type of Attachment
A
- Secure: Meeting all child need. show distress when caregiver leaves but greets when they come back.
- Insecure/Avoidant: Does not meet child needs. Doesn’t show distress. Explore. Go to stranger for comfort.
- Insecure/Resistant: Inconsistent in meeting child needs. Distress when they leave but resists them when they come back. Show anxiety.

- Self-Concept: Made up on self-image and self-esteem.
- Self-esteem: How you perceive yourself.
- Self-image: Personal view on themselves.

- Positive: Easier time in relationships, resist pressure, making friend, and handling conflicts.
- Negative: Passive, withdrawal, depressed. Self critical. Difficult with problems. may fluctuate between life stages.

- Positive: Determined in early childhood. influence of parents, caregivers or anyone around them.
- Negative: psychological problems, affected by life events and social roles. Real or distorted view of what they actually are.
