emf and potential difference Flashcards
What is the lines in a electric field called?
lines of electric flux
What are the forms converted from energy?
- heat
- light
- kinetic energy (motion)
What is electricity?
the movement of negative charged electrons moving
How can electricity be moved?
by a source of electrical energy such as a battery or power supply that has a positive side and a negitive side
what does this process provide EMF?
to drive around electrons in a circuit with the EMF
What is the equation for EMF?
E = Q x EMF
What does E stand for?
- energy in joules
- unit = J
What does Q stand for?
- charge in coulombs
- unit = C
What does EMF stand for?
- in volts (electromotive force)
- unit = V
What are two types of cells?
- primary
- secondary
What is a primary cell?
a cell that can only be used once
What is a secondary cell?
a cell that can be used more than once (recharged)
give examples of primary and secondary cell
- A primary cell, like a battery, is used for devices that will only run/work with primary cells. Which battery would gradually lose its charge
- A secondary cell, like a power bank, will be used to charge other devices like a phone. Though the cell will lose charge, it can also be recharged.
