3-phase Flashcards
What does the neutral wire provide
It provides the 3-phase system to use high voltage while still supporting lower-voltage single-phase load
What are the three different winding’s
-Gray phase winding
-Black phase winding
-Brown phase winding
How far are the wave forms separated
120 degrees apart
What are the delta/star connected system
VL = Line Voltage
VP = Phase Voltage
IL = Line Current
IP = Phase Current
What is the delta connected system formula
- IP = IL/√3
- IL = IP x √3
- VL=VP
What is the star connected system formula
- VP = VL/√3
- VL = VP x √3
- IL=IP
How much current can be held by a phase conductor, and what size for the load?
The phase conductor can hold the same current so can be the same size for a balanced load
What is required for high voltage transmission?
the transformer configuration is Delta delta no neutral or earth is required
What is needed for secondary distribution?
The transformer configuration is Delta star, neutral & earth are needed to be picked up from the star point of secondary winding
In the secondary distribtion, what esle does the neural conductor do?
it ficilitates two voltage option from the secondary windings
Neutral wire
What is the potential(voltage) of earth?
0V
load balancing
What is needed to make a three-phase?
4-wire electrical instillation for both efficieny and economy, which needs to be subdevided into load categories
load balancing
Why subdivide 4-wire into load categories?
So it can be assessed and items of equipment can be spread over all three phases supply to achieve a balanced system
