Emergency med Flashcards
speed shock & vasovagal syncope - what happens to pulse and BP
both drop
Anaphylactic shock pulse and BP
pulse high, BP low
First 3 steps of oxygen therapy procedure
- Open O2 tank to main valve (one full turn)
- check pressure gauge
- open flow meter (range 1-15 L/min)
Nasal cannula flow rate
1-6 L/min
Nasal cannula O2 concentration
24-44%
Nasal cannula for what Pts
breathing OR COPD w/ low O2
Pocket mask O2 conc
16% (mouth to mouth) or 21% (room air)
Pocket mask with Oxygen flow rate & O2 concentration
6-8 L/min; 44-55%
simple face mask: flow rate, O2 conc, type Pt
6-10 L/min, 40-60%; breathing or mild-mod resp distress
venturi mask (controls humidity) - flow rate, O2 conc, type Pt
4-15 L/min; 24-40%; Pt breathing, COPD, Asthma, stable patients (not for non-breathing)
Bag valve without O2 - Oxygen conc, Pt type
21 % (room air), Pt either NOT breathing, or breathing
Bag valve WITH O2 - flow rate, O2 conc, Pt type
10-15 (FIFTEEN!) L/min; 90-100 (ONE HUNDRED!)% O2, Pt breathing or Not, Tx for Burns, apnea, inadequate respirations
- note caps letters are what Anderson said vs Book
how to squeeze bag for bag valve )2
squeeze for 2 secs, every 5-6 secs for adults; every 3-5 secs for infants and kids
Partial breathing mask - flow rate, O2 conc, Pt type
8-15 L/min, 60-80%, breathe or Non-breathe
Non-rebreathing mask - flow rate, O2 conc, Pt type
10-15 L/min, 90-100%, for COPD, smoke or carbon monoxide, burn Pts, or Pts that need O2 but ARE breathing (not for Non-breathing)
