Comms Failure

A
  1. Squawk 7600
  2. Listen out on ATIS and or voice modulated NAVAIDS
  3. Transmit intentions and make normal position reports with “TRANSMITTING BLIND”

VMC? Remain VMC and land at most suitable airport

IMC?

  • No clearance limit? Climb planned level
  • Clearance limit? Maintain last level or MSA if higher, from 3 mins, or hold at nominate location 3 mins - then proceed accordance latest clearance and climb planned level

If receiving ATS surveillance:

  • climb MSA/LSALT
  • if being vectored, maintain last assigned vector 2 mins
  • then proceed accordance with latest clearance

If holding:

  • fly one more complete holding pattern
  • proceed in accordance latest clearance

Destination procedure
Track to destination in accordance with flight plan, descend initial approach altitude for most suitable approach, carry out approach to prescribed circling minima, visual at minima at controlled aerdrome? land provided clearance to land received via voice modulated NAVAID or light signal from tower or not visual? depart most suitable alternate or hold if not enough fuel

Pilot request by 4 separate and distinct 1 second transmissions

Pilot response subsequent control questions:

  • affirm - 1 distinct trans
  • negative - 2 distinct and separate
  • say again - 3 distinct and sep

  1. 7600

  3. Transmit intentions and normal position report “TRANSMITTING BLIND”
  4. ASAP establish visual navigation
  5. Land most suitable airport (special procedure if proceeding CLASS D)

Interception - action by intercepted aircraft

A
  1. follow instructions by intercept aircraft
  2. notify ATS if possible
  3. attempt establish radio comms with intercepting aircraft 121.5 or 243mHz
  4. 7700
  5. equipped with ADS-B or C? Select appropriate emergency function

Interception - Signals

A

Intercepting: rock aircraft or flash nav lights = you’ve been intercepted, follow me - intercepted aircraft does same? = Understood, will comply

Abrupt breakaway manoeuvre intercepting, climbing turn more than 90 degrees without crossing line of intercepted aircraft? You may proceed - intercepted? rock aircraft = understood, will comply

Intercepting: lowering landing gear, show steady landing lights and overfly runway in use = land at this airport. Intercepted? lower landing gear and showing steady lights = understood, will comply. Intercepted raise landing gear = airport you have designated is inadequate. regular switching on and off of all lights = cannot comply. irregular flashing = in distress.
