Emden Meyerhof Pathway Flashcards
Through a process of GLYCOLOSIS, uses 1 glucose (6 carbon molecule) & 2 pyruvic acid (3 carbon molecule)
Embden Meyerhof Pathway
Where does it take place?
In the cytoplasm
Does it require oxygen?
NO
What is required for this process to happen?
1 Glucose & 2 ATP’s used in step 1 & 3
How many reactions are required for 1 glucose to split in half?
10 different chemical reactions
What takes place in step 4?
glucose splits into 2> 3 carbon molecules
At what step does the cell start to make energy?
Step 5
What is NADH?
It’s an intermediate energy molecule, can’t be used immediately but can be used to make ATP
What are the products of EMP?
2 pyruvic acids; 4 ATP; 2 NADH
What are the NET products of EMP?
2 pyruvic acids; 2 ATP(subtract the 2 used in the start); 2 NADH
