Embryology Week 2 Flashcards
In day 8 where does the blastocyst embed itself in?
endometrium - partially
What is cytotrophoblast?
inner layer of mononucleated cells
What is syncytitrophoblast?
outer multinucleated zone without distinct boundaries - erodes maternal tissue
What happens in the syncytiotrophoblast?
cells in cytotrophoblast divide and migrate into synctiotrophoblast where they fuse + lose their individual membranes
What 2 different layers form the embryoblast?
- hypoblast - small cuboidal cells adjacent to blastocyst cavity 2. epiblast - columnar cells adjacent to amniotic cavity
Cells of each germ layer are known as?
bilaminar germ disc - form a flat disc
Where does the small cavity appear?
within epiblast
What does the cavity enlarge to become?
amniotic cavity
What are amnioblasts?
epiblast cells adjacent to cytotrophoblast
What is their function?
slide 8
Where do the vacuoles appear on day 9 and 10?
slide 9
Describe what happens at the lacunar stage?
slide 9
What is the Heuser’s membrane?
slide 10
What surrounds it?
slide 10
What happens to the blastocyst at days 11 and 12
slide 10
What are sinusoids?
slide 11
What is uteroplacental circulation?
slide 11
What is extraembryonic mesoderm?
slide 12
What is the chorionic cavity?
slide 13
What are the 2 parts of the extraembryonic mesoderm?
slide 15
What are villous structures ?
slide 15
Where do the cells produced by the hypoblast move?
What forms the secondary yolk cavity?
