How do the lens and cornea develop?

A

Optic vesicle grows out towards surface ectoderm and interacts with it via signalling molecules.

  • Ectoderm thickens –> lens placode
  • Optic vesicle and lens placode sink down
  • Ectoderm closes over top –> cornea
