Embalming 2 Exam 4 Flashcards
Common Iliac Artery (terminal branch of Descending Aorta)
Accompanying vein
common iliac vein
Anatomical Guide:
The medial border of the psoas major muscle.
Terminate at inguinal ligament
External Iliac Artery (hip)
External Iliac Artery (hip)
Accompaning vein
external iliac vein
Major artery in the thigh region and 2nd most raised vessel
Femoral Artery
Liner Guide:
On the surface of the thigh
from the center of the inguinal (femoral) ligament
to a center point on the medial condyle (round bony prominenance ) of the femur (thigh bone).
Goes obliquely at an angle
Femoral Artery (hip to knee)
Listed most lateral to most medial just below inguinal ligament:
Most media vessels of femoral triangle is termination of great saphagus vein
Most lateral structure is femoral nerve
Most lateral vessel is femoral artery
At Mid thigh artery/vein rotate as enter deep mid thigh level (further down thigh the greater risk of puncturing the vein which is located directly behind artery
Anatomical Guide: Through the center of the femoral triangle laterally by the sartorius muscle and medially by the adductor longus muscle Superior by the inquinal ligament (base)
Femoral Artery (hip to knee)
where sartorius intersect adductor longus
Apex
Anatomical Limits:
Begins at a point posterior to the center of the inguinal ligament
Terminates at the opening of the adductor magnus muscle
Femoral Artery (hip to knee)
Place of Incision:
Along any portion of the superior two-thirds (2/3) of the linear guide. Just inferior to inquinal ligament
Femoral Artery (hip to knee)
Considerations/advantages of femoral artery:
Large in size.
Lower portion of body can be embalmed without concern of distention of the face.
Drainage may be difficult to establish and maintain
Poor Equal distribution of fluid to the head.
Precautions:
Vessels are deep seated in obese cases.
Drainage is sometimes difficult to establish and maintain.
Femoral Artery (hip to knee)
Accompanying vein
Relative location:
Medial to the femoral artery at or below inguinal ligament
Medial and deep to the femoral artery at or below apex of femoral triangle/midthigh.
Femoral vein -single deep
Linear Guide: Through the center of the popliteal space parallel to the long axis of the lower extremity. Most media (relisten)
Popliteal Artery (behind the knee)
Anatomical Limits:
Begins at the opening of the adductor magnus muscle and
terminates at the inferior border of the popliteus muscle (about one inch below the knee).
Popliteal Artery (behind the knee)
Place of incision:
Parallel incision on the posterior - medial aspect of the thigh just superior to the popliteal space.
Popliteal Artery (behind the knee)
