Element 9 Physical and phycological Flashcards
Identify the lower and upper exposure action levels under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations (CNWR) 2005
- Lower level 80dB(A)
- Upper level 85 dB(A)
Identify two types of non-iondizing radiation
- Ultraviolet light
- Visable light
others are:
- Infrared
- radio waves
Sources can be photocopiers, welding equipment, tv radio and telecommunication transmission towers, mobile phones, microwaves, visual display equipment and power lines
Identify possible health effects due to exposure to vibration
- Vibration white finger
- Damage to nerves
- Damage to muscles
- Loss of strength in hands and pain in wrist
Oultine control measures that could reduce the risk of vibration
In cold conditions anti-vibration gloves can be helpful in reducing risks from HAV, alternative methods should be considered can a machine be used. Job rotation or time limits set on tasks and also personal HAV monitoring can be recorded. Operators should receive information, instruction and training and be given health surveilence. Work equipment should be selected for its vibratkon level
Identify risk factors which might cause work-related stress
- Environmental condiitons - poor unsanitary condiitons, unsafe working condiitions
- Relationships - harrasment, inadequate skills, role conflicts, conflict with colleagues
- Organisational - policies and procedures, unreasonable deadlines
- Support - lack of support from supervision or colleagues
- Interpersonal - Lack of respect, lifestyle ,financial or family problems
- Control or work setting - Lack of job security, lack of control over ones job
- Change
