Outline the key issues to be addressed in a pre-demolition survey of a multi-storey block of flats in a city centre
The surevy should take into account the presence of adjoining propertes e.g. hospitals where noise vibration and dust may be restricted. The type of structure and its key elements, the condiiton of the structural members and the contribution of floors, roofs and walls etc to its overall stability. The need for any temporary works or shoring.
Any confined spaces such as old tanks or process vessels, overhead or underground services. The presence of any health hazards such as asbestos, lead dust or paint. Residues from previos processes or contaminated land. I sthere suitable access for the proposed method of demolition and vehicle access for delivery of plant and removal of waste.
Give the meaning of the terms:
(i) piecemeal.
(ii) deconstruction
(i) Piecemeal demolition is by using hand held tools or machines to reduce the height of the buiilding or structure gradually
(ii) Deconstruction consists of the selective dismantlement of building components, the waste is removed and segregated for re-use or recycling
