Element 3 Vehicle and plant Flashcards
Outline the issues to consider when establishing suitable vehicle traffic routes on a construction site
Traffic routes should be of a design suuficient to allow safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians, the following factors should be considered. A suffcient number of routes should be provided for the volume of traffic and pedestrians. Sufficient searation of vehicles from doors and gates should be provided, if separation cannot be offorded in mixed areas pedestrians have right of way.
Other issues to consider are the proximity of structures or excavtions, the surface of teh road is it mud or stone, is it slipery or dusty. Are there blind corners or areas of por visibilty
When developing a work related driving policy outline factors that should be included
Distance travelled needs to be considered as improvemnets in the road network and also vehicles means greater distances can be covered but we still need to consider fatigue, the policy should consider recommending breaks during trips e.g 15 mins every 2 hours. maximum number of hours to drive in a single day and rest periods between driving days.
The policy should allow for rescheduling of trips due to adverse weather and also take into account work schedules.
During road works outline the traffic control measures that would be required in order to ensure compliance with the requirements of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
Road signs should be placed where they will be cearly seen, starting with road works ahead sign, followed by the road narrows left or riight signs at the beginning or end of lead-in taper f cones. Place a line of cones to directing traffic past the works, road danger lamps must be used at 40mph or above. Sites or works which include an excavation must include a information board giving the name of teh organisation, a telephone number
