If after three attempts to close the doors on a 15X, 170/4, and 318Unit, a Door Obstruction Light remains illuminated what must you do
You must check that all the doors are properly closed.
What would you do if you had a Power Operated Door which would not close?
Move all Passengers from the affected area. Isolate the vehicle and advise the Operations Control
If you had a door fault which could not be rectified by the Isolation of the TIS or EBS what would do
Request via the Signalman to either speak to Fitting Staff or have them attend the failure
Should a Power Operated Door become open en-route what documentation would you be required to complete?
You must complete a Power Operated Door Incident Form in conjunction with the Driver at the end of your shift
If you had any doubt as to which Emergency Services were required what would you do?
Request all Emergency Services
What would you do if you discovered a Vehicle with a broken window and glass lying in the coach?
Move Passengers from the Vehicle and isolate the Vehicle. Advise Control, make an entry in the Repair Book
If you were reporting an Overhead Line Incident how would you do this?
I would advise the Signalman or Electric Control Officer that “This is an Emergency Call” stating your Name Grade and Location, the nature of the Incident and the Lines or Wires affected. I would identify the location using Structure Plate Numbers and give this information to the Signalman/ECO
If you have been involved in any out of course situation what must you do before booking-off duty
Submit a full Written Report to your Conductor Team Manager, or line Manager.
What equipment do you require to have if you have to carry out Protection duties
Detonators, Track Circuit Clips and Hand Danger Signal
What is meant by the term Emergency Protection?
On the obstructed line place a Track Circuit Clip, and three Detonators 20 yards apart at 1.1/4 miles (2 km) from the obstruction.
What action would you take if you observed that the Station Lights were unlit at an unstaffed station
Advise the Signalman or Control and report the circumstances. Ensure that Passengers are clear of the platform before leaving the Station and submit a Report to the Trains Inspector
What action would you take if an Internal Door had come off it’s runner whilst you were going through the train
Try and secure the door and make an entry in the Vehicle Repair Book. Advise the Control and make arrangements for the White Slip to be faxed to the Control
If your train is involved in an accident, failure, obstruction or exceptional incident what must you immediately ascertain
Whether any other line is obstructed
What action would you take if you discovered that your train had divided
Secure the rear portion of the train. If opposite line is obstructed or fouled, protect that line using Track Circuit Clips and Detonators. Advise the Signalman immediately. Protect the front and rear of your portion of the train
How would you protect the front of your portion of a divided train
Three Detonators 20 yards apart 300 yards ahead of the divided portion of the train
Before going to carry out Protection Duties who must you confer with
The Driver
Normally which lines are you required to protect
The line on which the train is standing and any other lines running in the same direction that may be obstructed
In the event of a mishap or obstruction which line is the Driver required to protect
The opposite running line
In the event of a derailment/obstruction and the Driver was not available which line must you protect first
the opposite running line
Whilst carrying out Detonator Protection a train approaches what must you do
You must place 3 Detonators 20 yards apart on the line as quickly as possible, move to a position of safety and exhibit a Hand Danger signal
Whilst carrying out Detonator Protection you reached a Diverging Junction what would you have to do
Place 3 Detonators 20 yards apart before the Junction, the use your judgement and route knowledge as to which line to protect first
During Temporary Block Working what protection must be carried out
Emergency Protection.
During Single Line Working what protection must be carried out
Emergency Protection
During Single Line Working and the Pilotman is travelling with the train who would arrange for protection duties to be carried out if required.

If an opposite or adjacent Running Line was obstructed how would you protect that line
By placing a Track Circuit Operating Clip on the obstructed line and then carrying out Emergency Protection.
Whilst carrying out Detonator Protection, the Detonators normally placed at 1.1/4 fall within a Tunnel where would you place these Detonators

In Track Circuit Block Areas, if you were working a train , and in the event of a mishap your train is blocking the opposite Running Line, what would you be required to do

You must remain at the same position on the train and you must advise Customers that the Passenger Communication Apparatus has become inoperative and that if they require to have the train stopped in an emergency they must contact the Guard
In the event of your Driver having to isolate the TIS (Traction Interlock Switch) in order to gain traction power what must you do after you have closed the doors at each station
You must physically check that each door is closed on both sides of the train by giving them a pull, before giving the Driver the Ready to Start signal
If you were working more than unit which has had the EBS raised where must you ride on the train
In the leading cab of the rear unit
If your train is involved in a station/platform overshoot, what procedures should be undertaken?
When the driver has informed you that permission has been granted to return to the platform, by confirming that the signaller and operations control have been informed.
The conductor must then inform the passengers of the circumstances.
Only when all these conditions have been met can you set back onto the platform.
What procedures would you undertake if the driver failed to notify you that permission has been given to set back?
Place the break controller in the non-driving cab to the emergency position.
Contact the driver and confirm that signaller has granted permission to set back.
In the event of your train being involved in an incident or accident involving Dangerous Goods what would be your immediate action
Protect the train, alert the Signalman or Control, stating that “This is a Rail Dangerous Goods Emergency”. Give the train Reporting Number (if known), describe the incident as fully as you can and say if any Rail Staff or members of the Public are involved.
