What principles would you use when assessing if a package or piece of luggage is suspicious?
H – Hidden
O – Obviously Suspicious
T – Not Typical
After you had assessed a package you had found on a class 156/322 train and decided it was suspicious, who would you contact and how would you keep yourself and passengers safe?
Contact the driver, and then inform control and await further instructions.
Clear passengers from the coach affected, and ensure it is secured.
If you discovered a fire extinguisher that was defective and did not have the correct pressure or had previously been set off – what action would you take?
Remove the defective fire extinguisher from the area and ensure control is informed and a defect report is completed.
Describe the actions you would take in the event of a passenger being affected by illness or injury on your service?
Report incident to First Scotrail Control.

Advise Team Manager to arrange transfer of information.
How would you deal with passengers who are behaving in an anti-social manner on the service you are working?
Ensure the safety of yourself, passengers and the train within the realms of your own personal authority.
Contact control and the BTP, or advise control that you require them to contact the BTP on your behalf.
Where would you locate the Emergency Equipment Cupboard on-board a class 156 DMU?
Class 156: Intermediate Vestibule area of the Motor Coach Standard A (52 End).
Where would you locate the first aid Equipment on class 156/322 EMU?
Within the Emergency Equipment Cupboard.
Where would you locate the passenger safety information notices, and what information do they contain?
Entrance to sets and within the passenger saloons.
Contain safety and evacuation information for passengers.
Describe how you would communicate the importance for passengers to read the safety information notices?
Using the PA system during pre and post departure announcements informing passengers of the location of the safety information notices and their content.
Where can you locate the passenger communication apparatus on a class 156 DMU?
Toilet x 3
Passenger coaches x 2 per coach
Every alternate passenger door.
How would you know which coach the passenger communication apparatus had been activated, and how would you reset this correctly when located?
DO light illuminates in the affected coach and a carriage key would be used to reset this to the normal position.
In the event of a fire on your train and you have established that there is no immediate danger to other trains, when would you carry out Emergency Protection?
When the fire has been extinguished.
In the event of a fire on your train and other trains are in danger as a result of this, what actions are you required to take?
Immediately carry out Emergency Protection, and advise the signaller.
If you have a fire inside your train and you have managed to put it out, what duties are you then required to undertake?
Move all passengers from the affected vehicle. Ensure that the vehicle is isolated and if possible travel in the vehicle being ready to deal with any other outbreaks. If it is not possible to travel in the vehicle, it must then be checked regularly.
If there is a fire on your train and you have to stop the train, where should you try to avoid stopping the train?
In a Tunnel, Viaduct, Bridge or any other unsuitable place.
