Electronic Navigation Flashcards
At least 4 satellites provide
latitude, longitude, altitude, time solution.
Without RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring)
GPS position accuracy is not assured.
WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System)
More accurate. Don’t need to be concerned with RAIM. Correction system through communicating with ground locations.
How many satellites make up the Global Positioning System? (GPS)
24
What is the minimum number of GPS satellites that are observable by a user anywhere on earth?
5
If RAIM capability is lost in-flight,
the pilot has no assurance of the accuracy of the GPS position.
A GPS with an expired database may be used
under VFR flight for situational awareness.
Can a GPS be used as an altimeter?
No.
VOR navigation
VHF(Very High Frequency) Omni(All Direction) Range(Different signal for every direction)
What symbol would indicate a VORTAC location on an airport?
A runway configuration with a dot.
To use a VOR
- Tune frequency on navigation receiver
- Set radial (OBS)
- Observe TO-FROM indicator
- Observe (CDI) needle
VOT
VHF Omni Test
When the course deviation indicator (CDI) needle is centered using a VOR test signal (VOT), the omnibearing selector (OBS) and the TO/FROM indicator should read
0 degrees from or 180 degrees to, regardless of the pilots position from the VOT.
