3
Q

what happens if the gap ion electronegativity is huge

A

one atom will attract the shared pair of e- so much that it has control of them. This means that the bond becomes ionic

Q

when will a bond be non polar

A

All bonded atoms are the same
the bonded atoms have similar electronegativity
the molecule is symmetrical

Q

when will a bond be polar

A

when an electron pair is shared unequally between 2 elements.
this could be due to a lack of symmetry or a difference in electronegativity between the different elements

6
Q

what type of binding do polar molecules partake in

A

of they contain Hydrogen and (Oxygen Nitrogen or Fluorine)
hydrogen bonding
otherwise they contain a permentant dipole and therefore have permentant dipole dipole interactions

7
Q

what are London forces

A

weak intermolecular forces that exist between all molecules. They act because of the changing dipole generated by moving e- in all elements. At any instant the dipole exists but its position is constantly changing. As these elements are close to each other they induce the dipoles in eachother to line up

Q

what are pemenant dipole interactions

A

the electrostatic attraction between the dipoles that are induced by the difference in electronegativity between two elements

Q

what is hydrogen bonding

A
