electron flow and conventional current Flashcards
What is electron flow
Electron flow is the actual movement of electrons in a circuit — from the negative terminal to the positive terminal.
What is conventional current?
Conventional current is the imaginary flow of positive charge — from the positive terminal to the negative terminal of a power source.
Why is conventional current used even though electrons flow the opposite way
Before electrons were discovered, scientists assumed current flowed from positive to negative, and this convention is still used in circuit diagrams today.
What is the unit of electric current
The unit of electric current is the ampere (A).
What does 1 ampere represent
1 ampere = 1 coulomb of charge flowing per second
