Alternating Current Flashcards
1
Q
What is direct current (DC)
A
DC is an electric current that flows in one direction only, from negative to positive.
2
Q
What is alternating current (AC)
A
AC is an electric current that reverses direction repeatedly — it flows back and forth.
3
Q
What are common sources of DC and AC?
A
DC: Batteries, solar cells
AC: Wall outlets (mains electricity)
4
Q
How do DC and AC look on a graph (current vs time)?
A
DC: Straight, constant line constant value, does not change direction.
AC: Wavy line (usually sine wave)showing the current or voltage is reversing direction.
5
Q
Where are DC and AC used
A
DC: Electronic devices (phones, laptops)
AC: Power supply to homes and industries
