Electricity And Electrical Equipment Flashcards
What is direct current?
An even flowing current that travels in only one direction producing a chemical reaction.
What is alternating current?
A rapid and interrupted current flowing in one direction and then in the opposite direction,
producing a mechanical reaction.
What is an electrode?
Is an applicator for directing the electric current from the machine to the client’s skin.
What is polarity?
Indicates the positive or negative pole of an electrical current
How is the positive electrode called (red)?
Anode.
How is the negative electrode called (black)?
Cathode.
What is Galvanic current most commonly used for?
Product penetration.
What is Faradic current most commonly used for?
To tone the facial muscles.
What is Sinusoidal current most commonly used for?
To tone the facial muscles.
What is the Tesla high frequency current most commonly used for?
To sooth or stimulate the skin.
What are some contraindications for treatments with the use of currents?
Clients who are pregnant, suffer from seizures or epilepsy, asthma, high blood pressure, metal
implants.
Describe Argon gas - (violet ray):
Germicidal. Commonly used on acneic, congested, and combination skin conditions.
Describe Neon gas - (orange ray):
Product penetration, stimulation, blood circulation. Commonly used on mature, dehydrated, and
dry skin conditions.
Describe Micro current:
Low grade electrical current.
Describe Iontophoresis:
Low grade electrical current.
Describe Anaphoresis
Penetration of alkaline solution into the skin. Also known as desincrustation
Describe Cataphoresis
Penetration of acidic solution into the skin. (Water based products).
What is the Wood´s lamp function
Is a filtered black light that is used to illuminate fungi, bacterial disorders, pigmentation, and other
skin problems.
What are some benefits of the steamer machine
Stimulates circulation, softens sebum and debris, dilates pores and eliminates toxins,
oxygenates the skin.
What are some contraindications for the steamer machine
Avoid using on couperose, sensitive skin, or people who have trouble breathing
What are the benefits of the high-frequency machine
Has an antiseptic effect on the skin.
o It stimulates circulation.
o It helps oxygenate the skin.
o Increases cell metabolism.
o Helps coagulate and heal any open lesions after extractions.
o Produces ozone which has a disinfecting action on the skin
What is the purpose of the brushing machine?
Light exfoliating and stimulating action on the skin
What is the purpose of the vacuum machine?
To suck dirt and impurities from the skin as well as reducing the appearance of creases, such as
laugh lines
What is the purpose of the Galvanic machine
Galvanic is used to create two significant reactions: Anaphoresis (desincrustation) and
Cataphoresis (positive product penetration).
What is the purpose of paraffin wax in facial treatments?
Paraffin is used to create a warm, hydrating mask for dry or mature skin.
