Circulatory System Flashcards
What are the two main functions of the circulatory system?
The main function of the circulatory system is to provide oxygen, nutrients and hormones to muscles, tissues, and organs throughout your body. Also, to remove waste from cells and organs
What are the main parts of the circulatory system?
Heart, blood vessels, and blood
How does the blood get oxygen?
The circulatory system pumps blood from the heart to the lungs to get oxygen.
How does the heart then sends oxygenated blood to the rest of the body?
Through arteries.
What is the function of the veins?
The veins carry oxygen-poor blood back to the heart to start the circulation process over.
What kind of waste the circulatory system gets rid of?
Carbon dioxide from respiration (breathing), other chemical by products from your organs, waste from things you eat and drink.
What is the function of the pulmonary circuit?
To return oxygenated blood to the heart
What is the function of the systemic circuit?
In this circuit, blood with oxygen, nutrients and hormones travels from the heart to the rest of the body.
What is the function of the coronary circuit?
The coronary circuit returns oxygen-poor blood to the heart’s right upper chamber (atrium) to send to the lungs for oxygen.
What are the three main types of blood vessels?
Arteries, veins, capillaries.
What is red blood?
Blood rich in oxygen
What is blue blood?
Blood poor in oxygen.
What are some symptoms of poor blood circulation?
o Chestpain.
o dizziness of feeling faint.
o Shortness of breath.
o Pain, weakness, or numbness in the limbs.
o Swollen limbs.
o Slow or rapid heartbeat, or palpitations.
o Fatigue.
What are some leg and foot problems caused by poor blood circulation?
o leg cramping while walking or resting.
o cold feet or legs.
o change of leg colour.
o Change in toenail color or thickness.
o Loss of hair on legs and feet.
o Ulcers (sores) that don’t heal on the legs and feet
