Electricity Flashcards
Static Electricity
Is a build up of electric charge that can occur on good insulators
E.g polythene and Perspex rods
Polythene Rod
Gains electrons if a woollen cloth is rubbed on it (becamos negatively charged)
Perspex Rod
Loses electrons if it is rubbed by a woollen cloth (becomes positively charged)
Gold Leaf Electroscope
Detect Charge
Show size of charge
Test nature of charge
Test for insulator or conducted
Show size of perennial differnece
Electric Current
Is caused by the flow of electrons through a good conductor such as a metal.
A good insulator does not allow electric current to flow.
Electric Cureent
Is a flow of Electric charge
Electric Current
Conductors are substances which allow electric
Batteries
Energy provided by a battery or power pack is needed to move the current around the circuit.
Potential Difference
The difference in electrical pressure between positive and negative ends
Resistance
Resistance is the opposition to the flow of electrons. The unit is the Ohm, and it is measured using an Ohmmeter.
Ohms Law
Ohms Law states that voltage is directly proportional to current
Ohms Law
V - I
V - R
I x R
Effects of Electricity
Heating
Chemical
Magnetic
Direct Current
Direct Current goes in one direction only
Alternating Current
Alternating Current changes very quickly, many times a second
