Elder abuse
is any intentional action by a
caregiver or person in a trusted
relationship with an older adult that
causes
Passive neglect:
Active neglect:
Unintentional
Leaving alone for long periods, failure to visit
intentional
Failure to provide adequate nutrition, hygiene,
medication, clothing, shelter, or access to
necessary health care
Verbal forms:
Nonverbal:(signs too)
Intimidation by yelling/threats
Humiliation by blaming
Ignoring, isolating from friends/neighbors
Terrorizing
Signs: withdrawn, unusually depressed,
fearful, agitated, confused

Most victims of abuse are

How to make a report
Follow chain of command
NYS DOH starts investigation within 48 hrs of
call
Formal hearing
