What is lateral and medial collateral ligament injuries?
Acute tears of the LCL or MCL or chronic weakening of ligaments.
Common in overhead throwing sports or repetitive motions.
Ssx of LCL/MCL Injuries
Pain over area (lateral or medial side).
Swelling
Weakness
Assessment of LCL/MCL Injuries
Varus Stress Test
Valgus Stress Test
Varus Stress Test
Positive = increase pain or laxity
Indicates possible injury to LCL (pushing out on the elbow).
Valgus Stress Test
Positive = increase pain or laxity
Indicates possible injury to MCL (pushing in on elbow).
What is golfer’s elbow?
Medical epicondylitis.
Involves the wrist flexor muscles and tendons.
Medial epicondyle inflammation.
Ssx of Golfer’s Elbow
Pain on the inside of the elbow in flexion and supination/pronation.
Pain when making a fist.
Possible swelling and joint stiffness.

Golfer’s elbow test
Golfer’s Elbow Test
Positive = increased pain over medial epicondyle.
Indicates possible golfer’s elbow/medial epicondylitis.
What is tennis elbow?
Lateral epicondylitis
Involves the muscles and tendons that extend the wrist and fingers.
Lateral epicondyle inflammation.
Ssx of Tennis Elbow
Pain radiating from the outside of the elbow, forearm, and wrist.
Weak grip strength.
Assessment of Tennis Elbow
Cozen’s test
Cozen’s Test
Positive = increased pain over lateral epicondyle.
Indicates possible tennis elbow/lateral epicondylitis.
