What is fossil fuel?
A source of energy formed millions of years ago, releasing CO2. Examples include oil, gas, and coal.
What is renewable energy?
An energy source that will not run out, such as wind or solar power.
What is non-renewable energy?
An energy source that will run out, such as oil, coal, or gas.
What is tidal power?
Power generated from the tides or waves in the seas/oceans.
What is unconventional fossil fuel?
A source of fossil fuel gained in a new way, such as drilling extremely deep for oil, fracking for gas, or blasting tar sands with water for oil.
What does TNC stand for?
Transnational Company - a company that operates globally/across borders.
What are raw materials?
Materials such as metal ores in rocks. For example, bauxite is mined and processed into aluminium.
What does it mean to exploit?
To take advantage of an environment, its plants, and/or animals.
What is a turning point in climate change?
The point at which irreversible climate change cannot be halted or stopped.
What does ‘business as usual’ refer to?
A continuation of the current dependence on fossil fuels, such as oil for petrol in transport and coal in power stations in large parts of India and China.
