Social Reasons for the rebellion

A

Edwin was unhappy because William promised him that he could marry Williams daughter but went back on his word
Reported that Odo of Bayeux and William FitzOzbern had seized land unlawfully and allowed soldiers to race anglo Saxon women without punishment

A

Morcar was unhappy that his earldom was reduced in size by William giving part of it away to Tostigs old thegn Copsi
When William returned from Normandy he gave every mans land away and Odo and fitzozberns land grabs were repeated all over the country with Williams followers seeking to expand their grants
William imposed heavy guild tax in December 1066 which he took with him when he returned to Normandy in 1067 showing that he Planned to take money from England to make Normandy richer

When William returned from Normandy he gave every mans land away and Odo and fitzozberns land grabs were repeated all over the country with Williams followers seeking to expand their grants

He took his forces north into Mercia, Edwin’s earldom and Northumbria which morcar governed Parts of
He took control of the buhrs of Warwick and then in Nottingham and built castles in both places destroying houses to make room for construction

The rest of the revolt collapsed
