Education: Marxist Flashcards
What do Marxist believe issues are with education?
Louis Althusser sees the role of education as a way to promote capitalist values.
They also argue that working class children are given less opportunities.
And that it is designed to keep class division.
What did Bowles and Ginitis believe?
They believed that schools reward conformity over intelligence and achievement.
In US high schools they found that the best grades went to hard, working opponent children rather than creative, independent ones.
What do the Marxist think of New Vocationlism?
They are critical of this as they believe it is legitimizing class division because they promote that m/c get education whilst the w/c receive training.
