Ecosystems and Resource Management Flashcards
What is fracking?
The process where highly pressurised liquid is pumped into shale rock which creates new faults and channels where gas can be extracted.
What is a negative of fracking?
Potentially causes tremors, uses large amounts of water which negatively effects the environment and has a risk of leaking chemicals that can harm water sources.
What is a positive of fracking?
Helps the UK to achieve energy security by minimising reliance on imported fuels.
How are rainforest plants adapted?
Trees are very tall and have buttress roots that stabilise them.
Tree trunks are tall, skinny and smooth to allow trees to reach the canopy and allow water to flow off.
Trees have long and pointy tips called drip tips that allow water to quickly flow off with minimal damage.
