Q

Facilities were opened to the public; what was the issue with this

A

Although the velodrome and pool were opened for the public, they were generally very expensive which led to even more Newham locals being left out of the benefits.

-This all resulted in gentrification.
NOT SOCIOECONOMICALLY SUSTAINABLE.

17
Q

What does stage 1 of DTM look like and why

A

High birth rates, High death rates mean that population is low and steady. There is no contraception so many people have children, especially as compensation for high infant mortality.

18
Q

What does stage 2 of DTM look like and why

A

Many LICs are here. High birth rates and an ever-increasing healthcare system mean that death rates are increasing so the population rises. Structure of the economy is agriculture based so people have children to work on farms.

19
Q

What does stage 3 of DTM look like and why

A

Many NEEs are here. Birth rate decreases due to access to contraception and more women working as opposed to having children. Death rate is already low due to increasing quality of healthcare. No working children are needed as economy has become manufacturing based.

20
Q

What do stages 4 and 5 of DTM look like and why

A

Most HICs are here. Long life expectancy leads to a large amount of dependable elderly. This combined with high expected quality of life means that many people are unable to financially support a child. Population is either steady or decreasing because of natural decrease.
