Ecology πͺ΄ Flashcards
Describe 3 abiotic factors
Soil-the soil in an area depends on what type of plants will grow there. Tool-soil tested
Temperature-the temperature in an area depends on what animal/plant will grow/live there.
Tool-thermometer.
Sunlight-needed for photosynthesis. Without it all plants would die and without plants all of the animal would die. Tool-Campbell stokes recorder.
Name the tools used in ecology
Quadrant, pooter, sweep net, pitfall trap, beating tray
Name 2 animal adaptations and 1 plant adaptation
Ducks-webbed feet so they can swim to look for food.
Rabbits-big ears to listen out for danger.
Cactus-spikes to keep herbivores from eating it.
Ecology
Ecology is the study of the relationship between animals, plants and their environment.
ecosystem
an area where all the living things interact in an environment.
Habitat
where a living thing lives.
Decomposers
animals that feed on dead plants and animals
competition
animals that compete for the same foodstuff which may be in short supply.
interdependence
When living things depend on each other for survival.
Soil thermometer
Checks temperature of soil
Thermometer
Checks temperature of water or air
Light intensity
Measures light intensity
Wind direction
A ribbon and a compass show wind direction
Soil pH
Measures soil pH
Why is conservation important?
- To prevent species going extinct.
- Many medicines are made from plants which we need.
- We have a responsibility to protect our planet for future generations.
