what are features of EBV
A
causes fever, sore throat and fatigue =, can develope itch rash after
Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes)
Tonsillar enlargement
Splenomegaly and in rare cases splenic rupture
- ussually affects adolecents

which antibodies are produced in EBV and how can they be tested?
A
heterophile antibodies- non specific but attack viral capsid antigen (VCA)
- monospot test
- paul bunnell test

how is EBV managed?
A
- slef limiting
- lasts 2-3 weeks
- avoid alcohol as EBV affects livers ability to process alcohol
- avoid contact sports due to risk of splenic rupture

Splenic rupture Glomerulonephritis Haemolytic anaemia Thrombocytopenia Chronic fatigue
