- Culimia and anorexia

DSM criteria for Anorexia nervosa
- don’t eat
- fear of gaining weight
- distorted perception of body weight and shape
What is the restricting type of anorexia nervosa?
- 3 months of no binging or purging
- excessive exercising, fasting
What is the bing-eating/purging type of anorexia nervosa
-3 months of the binging and purging behaviors
Are these ppl underweight ?
yes
-they will try to lose weight fuh sho
What is weight loss viewed as in these people?
-a form of control
What complications do we really have to worry about with these pts?
-cardiac cardiac cardiac!!!!
What will happen to their brain?
-atrophy
Should we replenish these ppl slowly?
- yes
- don’t rehydrate or feed pts beyond their current capacity
Which drug do we really want to avoid in these ppl?-
- Bupropion
- increased seizure risk with binging and purging
- and TCAs (cardiotoxicity- Qtc prolongation)
What BMI are we starting to get into anorexia at?
-18
What makes Bulemics tricky?
-they can be pretty much any body weight!
What is the best treatment usually?
-psychotherapy!
What drug is the only drug indicated for bulemia?
-Fluoxetine!
