EatE — 3A-B — organisms in the environment, feeding relationships Flashcards
Population
The number of individuals of a specific species.
High abundance = big population
Community
All of the different species found in an ecosystem.
- Plants
- Animals
- Decomposers (protoctists, bacteria, fungi)
Habitat
The place where an organism lives.
Ecosystems can be made up of various habitats
Ecosystem
All of the living and non-living parts of a particular area and the interactions between them
Biodiversity
Measure of the number of species + the size of the population
Large numbers of lots of different species = high biodiversity
Biotic
Living things
- animals
- plants
- fungi
- bacteria
- protoctists
Abiotic
Non-living things
(the physical environment)
- Topography
- Climate
- pH of soil
- Water temperature
