Outer Ear ( composition)
A
made of: skin and elastic cartilage
external acoustic (auditory canal) meatus extends to tympanic membrane (eardrum)
skin contains fine hairs and sebaceous glands; deeper are ceruminous glands (secrete cerumen)

Middle Ear
A
air filled tympanic cavity, short
3 bones: collectively called the auditory ossicles
malleus, incus, and stapes

Inner Ear
A
boney labyrinth (within porous portion temporal bone), fluid filled
3 Regions
- Vestibule- middle portion, connects to stapes
- Semicircular canals- posterior vestibule balance
- Cochlea- coiled chamber and spiral organ- hearing ( sound waves are transported into nerve impulses)
