Ear Flashcards
External ear
Collects sound waves and channels them into the ear canal
Middle ear
Transmits sound waves from the external ear to the inner ear and increases their frequency for when they hit the oval window
Internal ear
Transfers sound to the brain and helps to keep your balance
Eardrum
Seperates external ear from middle ear and vibrates when sound hits it
Stapes/Incus/Malleous bones
They amplify sound vibrations and transfer to the cochlea
Cochlea
Hollow, spiral shaped structure that converts the auditory signals to neural impulses by hairs, filled with jelly-like substance
Round window
A drum-like membrane. Vibrations from the oval windowpass through it

- Microsuction
Perforated eardrum cause
- An injury to the ear drum, like being poked or chanes in pressure or sudden loud noise
Perforated eardrum effect
- Sudden hearing loss
- Earache
- Fluid leaking from ear
