EA Exam Prep Flashcards

1
Q

Tamm, T., Seddon, P. B., & Shanks, G. (2022). How enterprise architecture leads to organizational benefits.

How does it change the traditional view on EA? Why is it important?

A

Traditionally, EA focused on designing a high-level blueprint for IT systems and business processes - it is not clear how this leads to benefits.

The study suggests a more effective approach is to view EA as a service (advisory function), providing relevant information and advice tailored to decision-maker needs.

What is Quality of EA service provision?

A

This is a new concept introduced by the research. It highlights the importance of clear communication, accurate information, and efficient processes within the EA team to maximize the benefits of EA.

These lead to benefits!

Q

Tamm, T., Seddon, P. B., & Shanks, G. (2022). How enterprise architecture leads to organisational benefits.

What are the mechanisms for achieving benefits?

A

Improved IS Decision Making (through better processes, data provision, and education)

Guiding IS Project Delivery (by ensuring alignment with EA principles)

Building a Better IS Platform (through standardization and optimization)

How do I reference other topics and Topdanmark? Critical perspective?

A

Talk about the role in Topdanmark.

EA requires alignment

How do we handle changes in the market, does EA help us? Yes, but on the IT side only.

Q

Urbaczewski, L., & Mrdalj, S. (2006). A comparison of enterprise architecture frameworks. Issues in Information Systems.

What are the key points?

A

EAFs help document an enterprise’s architecture including business needs, IT systems, and how they relate.

Different EAFs have different focuses - general or industry-specific.

Compares EAFs based on their views, abstractions, and how well they cover the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Zachman Framework is the most comprehensive but other frameworks may be better suited depending on the specific needs of a project.

How do I reference other topics and Topdanmark? Critical perspectice?

A

Q

Kotusev & Kurnia (2021): The Theoretical Basis of Enterprise Architecture (EA)

10 relevant theories are grouped into 4 groups - what are they?

A

Role Theories: Explain how artifacts bridge communication gaps between different stakeholders (business & IT). (e.g., Boundary Object Theory, Actor-Network Theory)

Usability Theories: Focus on designing effective artifacts for decision-making. (e.g., Cognitive Fit Theory, Information Processing Theory, Uncertainty Principle)

Stakeholder Theories: Address how stakeholders interact with and use artifacts. (e.g., Knowledge Management Theory, Media Richness Theory, Decision-Making Theories)

Contrast Theory: Explains the gap between prescribed and actual uses of artifacts. (e.g., Management Fashion Theory)

Q

Kotusev & Kurnia (2021): The Theoretical Basis of Enterprise Architecture (EA)

Explain 2 of the theories that I find interesting - Communities of Practice (Topdanmark) and Boundary Objects

A

Communities of Practice is a stakeholder theory and is more focused on direct communication where artifacts are not enough. It is often complimented by boundary objects. (Topdanmark)

Boundary objects is a Role Theory - talk about hvidbogen and why Topdanmark could benefit from artifacts.

Kotusev & Kurnia (2021): The Theoretical Basis of Enterprise Architecture (EA)

Critical perspective

A

Hvordan implementeres teorier?

Gap imellem teori og praksis.

Jason - EA kræver alignment imellem strategi og IT strategi og teorien har et problem med markedskræfterne.
