E Stim And Ultrasound Parameters Flashcards
What kind of TENs do you use for acute pain?
What type of TENs do you use for chronic pain?
What kind of TENs for fast pain relief?
Acute- Conventional
Chronic- Acupuncture or Noxious
Fast relief- Brief Intense
What is the duration of Conventional TENs?
What is the frequency?
Duration: 75-150
Frequency: 80-125
Usually on normal mode but can be set to modulate if necessary
What is the frequency/duration of Acupuncture-like TENs?
Duration: 100-600
Frequency: Under 20pps
Usually on N but can be set to M if necessary
What is the frequency/duration of noxious level TENs
Duration 100-1000
Frequency: 1-5
Usually on N but can be set to M if necessary
What is the duration/frequency of Brief Intense TENS?
Duration: 100-600
Frequency: 100
Set on B mode for blast, NOT N
What are you looking for with Conventional TENS?
What are you looking do with Acupuncture-like TENS?
Tolerable sensory w/ no muscle contraction
High enough to illicit sensory and motor
What are you looking for with Noxious level TENS?
What about Brief Intense TENS?
High intensity sensory, muscle contraction is acceptable but not the goal
Brief Intense- Muscle fasciculations or a sustained muscle contraction
What is the pulse width of NMES for muscle re-education?
Frequency?
pulse width: 200-600
Frequency- 35-55 (Beginning range of tetany)
How long should a treatment with NMES for muscular re-education last?
15 minutes
What duty cycle should you use for NMES for muscular re-education?
Start with 1:5 and move to 1:3 and then 1:1 based on fatigue levels
What frequency and duration should you use for NMES for MUSCLE STRENGTHENING or preventing atrophy?
Duration: 200-600
Frequency: 50-85 ( tetany range)
How strong should the intensity be when using NMES for retardation of atrophy or muscle strengthening
Retardation of atrophy - 25%+ of MVIC, great enough to move limb through antigravity range
Muscle strengthening: 60% of MVIC
What duty cycle should you use for Russian current for muscle strenghtening?
1:5
For a non-thermal treatment of US, what parameters should you use?
20% duty cycle (1:5) instead of continuous.
Intensity: 1 W/Cm^2
Time: 8-10 minutes
For DEEP mild thermal ultrasound of a subacute injury, what parameters should you use?
1MHz
Intensity: 1 W/Cm^2
Time: 5 minutes
