What is the ductus deferens a continuation of?
The epididymis
Where does the ductus deferens enter the abdomen? What is it’s immediate course at that point?
At the deep inguinal ring. It then hooks around the interfoveolar ligament and the inferior epigastric artery
After hooking around the interfoveolar ligament and inferior epigastric artery, what then is the course of the ductus deferens?
It crosses the external iliac artery, the OUA (??), the obturator nerve, artery and vein, and curves medially and crosses the ureter approaching it’s opposite fellow
What happens when the two ductus deferens meet?
The run parallel side by side, and dilate into the ampulla (store house)
Where is the ampulla relative to the seminal vesicles?
Medial
What joins the form the ejaculatory duct? What is its course?
The ampulla and seminal vesicles join, and pass obliquely to the side of the urethral crest
Describe the structure of the ductus deferens
It is a very thick walled structure, lined with pseudostratified epithelium and stereocilia
What is the blood supply of the ductus deferens?
From the superior vesical, anastomosing with the testicular artery
What does the ductus deferens develop from?
It is the main derivative of the mesonephric duct
Describe the structure of the seminal vesicles
A thin walled, elongated sac consisting of only two layers
What do the seminal vesicles secrete?
60% of seminal fluid
What is the blood supply of the seminal vesicles?
The inferior vesical and middle rectal arteries
How do the seminal vesicles develop?
As a posterior diverticulum of the prostate
What is the lymphatic drainage of the seminal vesicles?
To the nearest iliac node
What is the nerve supply to the seminal vesicles?
Smooth muscle is from the pelvic plexus. Sympathetic fibres are motor and their division produces sterility
