Q

What routes are there in the dual route model?

Q

How does the dual route model explain brain region activation?

A

Suggests word and non word reading uses different brain regions

Jobart et al (2003) found:
Visual letter processing
Lexical reading
Sub lexical reading
All activated different brain regions

Implies subdivision and specialisation of functional architecture of reading network

Q

How does the dual route model account for the relationship between semantic dementia and surface dyslexia?

A

Argues that people with semantic dementia who do not have surface dyslexia prove there is not a causal relationship

Proves the existence of these people by the 2 lexical levels which allow the direct route from lexical to output without having to access semantics therefore some people can read without understanding what they have read

This dependence on semantics varies between individuals and so may explain why some semantic dementia sufferers do not have surface dyslexia

Q

What does the dual route model say about phonological dyslexia?

A

Says phonological dyslexia is a reading specific impairment because some people are able to repeat non words

Cannot be due to general phonological impairment therefore
