Competitive Cueing Model Flashcards
How does the competitive cueing model work?
1) word identity: holds identity of to be spelled word and constituent letters
2) serial position mechanism: places activation gradient across letters
Initial letters start with high activation which fades over time
End letters start with low activation which increases over time
3) letter output nodes: individual letters
Activated by combination of information from letter identity and serial position levels
4) competitive filter:
Identifies letter nodes with greatest activation and selects for output processing
Inhibits selected node to prevent reselection
What does the competitive cueing model describe?
How we get graphemes in right order when we spell a word
