What are the two major subtypes or aphasia?
1) fluent
2) non- fluent
What is Broca’s aphasia?
Type of non-fluent aphasia
Comprehension relatively well preserved compared to production
Speech comprised of short utterances
Agrammatic
Commonly associated with apraxia of speech
Poor repetition
What is fluent aphasia?

Speech copious but devoid of content, meaningless in extreme cases
Well formed, fluent speech output
Normal grammatical elements
Word selection difficulties
What is wernickes aphasia?
Type of fluent aphasia
Fluent speech with long well formed sentences
Preponderance of word finding difficulties
Comprehension severely impaired
Repetition impaired
Articulation and prosody normal
