If you become aware that a vehicle on your train has a hot axle box what must you do?
- stop the train immediately
- contact the signaller
- do not move the train
- carry out any instructions given
- if possible, move passengers from the affected vehicle
If a hot axle box is confirmed, what is the max speed during any movement?
10mph, 5mph over points or crossings
After examining the train, and you find no evidence of a hot axle box, how would you proceed?
Normally
If the train is stopped by another HAB detector activation within 50 miles what must you do?
- don’t move train until instructed to do so
- carry out any instructions given
- proceed at max 20mph
If you’ve had a HAB detection and continued, how long before you’ll be stopped to complete another inspection?
50 miles
If requested to examine for a hot axle box, what must you do?
- Examine the axle box on the vehicle concerned, as advised by signaller
- If no evidence of overheating, next check all axle boxes on that vehicle
- If no evidence again, next check all axle boxes on the vehicles to either side
What must you do if you are unable to conduct an examination within 10 minutes of stopping?
- tell the signaller
- carry out instructions given
- if need to be moved. No more than 20mph
What do you need to do if you find a hot axle box?
- obtain authority from signaller to move the train to next location where it can be dealt with
- if possible, move the passengers from the affected vehicle
- must not exceed 10mph, 5mph over any points and crossings
