Who has responsibility for service regulation on the LU

How are the lines referred to?
- northbound
- southbound
How are automatic signals identified?
Prefix ‘A’ followed by signal number
What are the two types of signal on LU?
- controlled
- automatic
What are the signal plate abbreviations for controlled signals?
- JW: Amersham
- JP: Rickmansworth
- JJ: Watford Junction
- JB: Harrow on the Hill
What are the two states of fog repeaters?
- Yellow aspect: the associated signal is at danger
- White aspect: the associated signal is clear or at caution
Permanently either one or the other
How far in advance are fog repeater signals located?
400ft of the associated signal.
What is the purpose of tripcock testers?
To check that the tripcock of each passing train is in the correct position to contact a raised trainstop.
How fast should you approach a tripcock tester?
10mph
What should you do if the test indicator light is extinguished and the train is not tripped?
Test is passed, continue as signalled
If the test indicator light is extinguished but the train is tripped, what should you do?
- Can remain in service as test is passed
- driver must contact Hammersmith Control/Controlling Signaller for further instructions
What should you do if the indicator light remains illuminated?
- Test has failed
- Driver must contact Hammersmith Control/Controlling Signaller for further instructions
If a signal is at danger, what does the trainstop do?
Arm raises to activate tripcock on any passing train.
What happens after a tripcock activation?
Emergency brake application and steady red light shown on indicator panel
How do you reset the tripcock?
- direction controller to neutral
- pressing uncouple button for ~10s
