If you are approaching a signal and you receive a yellow hand signal, what should you do?
Stop, you can only continue once you have received instruction at the starting signal and you need to hand in your RT3184 at the exit signal
If you reach the exit signal and the hand signaller is not present, what should you do?
Wait until the hand signaller arrives.
What information needs to be communicated to you by the hand signaller / on the RT3184
- over which line TBW applies
- between which signals TBW applies
- which signal to pass at danger to enter the TBW section
- which signals to ignore
- Max speed 50mph
- any level crossings to approach cautiously
- not to exceed 15mph over points, switch diamonds, swing-nose crossings
- additional instructions
- signal to stop at at the end of section to give up RT3184
- train reporting number
Once the hand signaller has provided you with this information, what do you do next?
- make sure information is correct
- read back to confirm understanding
Once the hand signaller is confident that understanding has been reached and authority has been received, what would they do next
- remove their detonator from the track
- give you a yellow hand signal to proceed
What must you do before entering the TBW section?
Use the temporary TPWS isolation switch
When in the section, what is it a good idea to do in regards to the signal numbers on the RT3184
Cross them off as you pass them to ensure situational awareness
When you stop at the exit signal, what must you do before proceeding?
- hand over RT3184 ticket to hand signaller
- if signaller controls exit signal, wait for it to clear and get hand signallers permission before proceeding
- if you need to pass the exit signal at danger, the hand signaller will authorise you with a yellow hand signal
- must reinstate TPWS before proceeding
What are the two exceptions to requiring a TBW ticket before entering the TBW section
- when assisting a disabled train or removing a divided train portion
- when assisting a unit from the rear and driving from other than the leading cab (shown to both drivers but held by lead driver)
