DT6 - 165 - Paperwork Flashcards
What is the hydrostatic system used to drive on the class 165s?
Radiator fan
What is run on the start battery?
- starter motor
- remote supply
- brake control
- AWS/TPWS/WSP
- P.A / Radio
- Local/Train Control
- External Doors
- OTMR
What is run on the aux. battery
- Main lights
- Emergency lights
- Heating Control
- Saloon doors
- Toilet
- PIS
- Aux. heater
Explain the power train on a 165
- Engine powers the alternator from the free end
- from the fly wheel end a cardan shaft goes to the Voith gearbox
- the gearbox then has a cardan shaft that powers the master final drive
- a cardan shaft then goes from the master final drive to the slave final drive
Name the transmission and it’s 3 major components
Voith gearbox:
1. torque converter
2. fluid coupling
3. sliding (dog) gear
Give a description of the 165 engine
- Perkins 2000
- 6 cylinder
- inline diesel engine
- w/ turbocharger up to 350bhp
- max rpm 2150
How do you identify wheel one and the rest of the wheels on a coach
- Wheel one has a white/yellow arrow pointing to it (usually North End, DA side)
- goes down that side to 4 and then 5-8 up other side.
- each axel adds to 9
How many isolations are in the driving cab?
- Horn IC
- Uncoupler IC
- Cab Door IC
- Parking Brake Applied Cock
- Parking Brake Bypass Cock
- Windscreen Washer/Wiper IC
- Emergency Parking Brake Application Cock
Explain CRCLs defensive driving policy including what happens if WSP activiates
- 15/20 or 10/20 in LRA
- in LRA brake earlier and lighter
- if WSP activation put PBC into BS3 unless red at end of platform where you put in emergency
How does the hydrostatic system work?
- pump attached to engine pumps oil around a loop
- temperature probe senses engine oil temp.
- when oil reaches max temp, valve forces hydrostatic system oil to power a fan
- fan cools radiator which cools water
- cooled water enters water cooler which cools the oil
Components of the hydrostatic system
- Engine
- Hydrostatic pump
- Control valve
- Reservoir
- Radiator fan
- Control unit
Name the two sides of the suspension
- Primary: rubber blocks
- Secondary: air bags
How does the variable load valve work?
Adjusts brake pressures based on weight of passengers to ensure consistent braking performance
How do the levelling valves work?
Adjusts airbag pressures to ensure that train carriage remains in gauge and at correct height above railhead.
What on train wire 4 can initiate an emergency brake application
- AWS/TPWS
- DSD/Vigilance
- Passcom/Egress
- Low Main Res. Governor
- Emergency Parking Brake AC
- PBC at EB
- Emergency Plunger
- Tripcock
- Brake MCB
- Coupler Microswitch
