Q

Explain the power train on a 165

A
  • Engine powers the alternator from the free end
  • from the fly wheel end a cardan shaft goes to the Voith gearbox
  • the gearbox then has a cardan shaft that powers the master final drive
  • a cardan shaft then goes from the master final drive to the slave final drive

Q

How do you identify wheel one and the rest of the wheels on a coach

A
  1. Wheel one has a white/yellow arrow pointing to it (usually North End, DA side)
  2. goes down that side to 4 and then 5-8 up other side.
  3. each axel adds to 9

Q

Explain CRCLs defensive driving policy including what happens if WSP activiates

A
  • 15/20 or 10/20 in LRA
  • in LRA brake earlier and lighter
  • if WSP activation put PBC into BS3 unless red at end of platform where you put in emergency

Q

How does the hydrostatic system work?

A
  1. pump attached to engine pumps oil around a loop
  2. temperature probe senses engine oil temp.
  3. when oil reaches max temp, valve forces hydrostatic system oil to power a fan
  4. fan cools radiator which cools water
  5. cooled water enters water cooler which cools the oil

Q

What does DMOSL, DMOS and MOS stand for?

A
  • Driving Motor Open Standard Lavatory
  • Driving Motor Open Standard
  • Motor Open Standard
17
Q

Explain how the brake system works?

A
  • PBC is set to a brake step.
  • This sends signal to the brake relays which fill the brake cylinders with the set air pressures
  • The air comes from the brake supply reservoir which is fed by the main res.
  • it is an ‘energise to release’ system, ie if it loses power the brakes apply.
18
Q

How is the alternator driven?

A
  • By the engine through a cardan shaft
19
Q

What does the alternator power?

A
  • produces 450v AC
  • goes through a rectifier
  • 400/450 powers the Air Con.
  • 50/450 converted to DC through rectifier
  • 28v DC for battery charging and powering train
