Sleep wake disorders

A

Insomnia: dissatisfaction with sleep qty/qlty. hard to fall asleep, stay asleep, or waking up early and not able to fall back asleep. At least 3 nights/week for 3 months.

Hypersomnolence: excessive sleepiness when sleeping at least 7 hours. At least 3 nights/week for 3 months.

Narcolepsy: episodes of falling asleep. 3 times/week for 3 months.

Sleep apnea: sleep study. stops breathing while sleeping, snoring, gasping. daytime fatigue.

Eating disorders

A

Anorexia: restriction, low weight. intense fear of gaining weight. body checking. No time duration.

Bulimia: binge eating + compensatory bx. at least once/week for 3 months.

Binge eating: recurrent binge eating episodes. lack of control during episodes. once/week for 3 months.

PICA: persistent eating non-nutritious foods over 1 month.

ARFID: nutritional deficiency due to eating disturbance (sensory, lack of interest, worries about consequences - choking)

Rumination: regurgitation of food over 1 month. regurtitated food may be re-chewed, re-swallowed or spit out.

Trauma Disorders: PTSD

A

PTSD: exposure to traumatic event, witness. Duration: 1+ month

1 + intrusion symptoms (memories, dreams, dissociation, distress at reminders)

Avoidance of reminders or efforts to avoid intrusive sxs

2+ Negative cognitions (inability to remember event); negative beliefs “i’m bad/no one can be trusted”; blames self or others not involved; persistent negative emotional state like shame, horror, fear; loss of interest; detachment; inability to experience positive emotions

2+ changes in arousal: irritability, recklessness/self-destructive bx, hypervigilance, easily startled, concentration problems, sleep issues

children: reenactment play may occur. 1 sx for children except changes in arousal (2+)

A

Exposure to trauma (actual or threatened death, serious injury, sexual violence), personal experience, witnessing event, knowing it happened to a loved one.

3 days to 1 month, typically immediately after traumatic event

A

Emotional or bx symptoms in response to a stressor within 3 months of onset of stressor

Distress is out of proportion to stressor OR impaired functioning

Not grief/bereavement

Once stressor ends, sxs end within 6 months
