vasodilator
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Tridil): Mechanism of Action
relaxes smooth muscle, reduces preload and afterload which decreases work of the heart therefor 02 demand decreases
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Tridil): Indications
angina pectoris(acute),
hypertension
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Tridil): Contraindications
hypotension, ICB, ED meds within 48hrs, administration within 24 hrs
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Tridil): Adverse Reactions
headache,
dizziness,
tachycardia,
muscle twitching,
vomiting
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Tridil): Drug Interactions
not compatible with IV drugs, effects with other vasodilators
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Tridil): Route
SL
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Tridil): Dosage & Administration ADULTS
Adults
0.4 mg SL repeated 3-5m until max 3 doses. SL spray 0.4 mg 1-2 sprays. Iv 10-20mcg/min increasing 5-10 mcg/min every 5min until desired effect.

not recommended for children

Onset: 1-3 Minutes
Peak 5-10 Minutes
Duration: SL 20-30 minutes
Duration: IV 1-10 minutes after discontinuation of infusion
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitro-Bid, Tridil): Special Considerations
Pregnancy Safety: Has been used safely during pregnancy.
Category C, caution when breastfeeding and monitor infants. Keep airtight due to decomp from light and heat. May sting. HypoT mostly in older people.
