Drug Therapy Decision Flashcards
Pharmaceutics
the specific dosages form of a medication is designed to achieve benefit and to avoid side effects
Pharmacokinetics
body transports the drugs, break them down, and removes them
Pharmacodynamics
drug interacts w/ body to produce its effects
Therapeutics
drugs have effects, which lead to treatment of diease
Pharmacokinetics
- absorption
- distribution
- metabolism
- excretion
Absorptions
- oral ingestion (eating or drinking)
- intramuscular ingestion
- intravenous ingestions
- inhalation
- topical
- bioavailability; absorbed into blood
Distribution
- through heart
- to fatty tissue storage
- to digestive system
- drug moves gradually in general circulation
- allow drug to reach area
Metabolism
drug metabolism in liver (prepares for elmination)
Exretion
- some blood to kidneys for execration
- urine
- clearance rate at which drugs leave the body
Pharmacodynamic
-what drug does to the body
-come after absorption or disruption but before metabolism and exertion
specific protein in cell that drugs must combine w/ for cells to respond to drug molecules
Agonist
-binds to receptor
agonist receptor =agonist + receptor interaction -> drug action/ effect
Antagonist
-binds but no response
Antagonist + Receptor =agonist + receptor interaction -> no drug effect
Therapeutic Effects
- local
- systemic
Adverse Effect
- side effect
- toxicity
Factors Affecting Drug
- genetic
- demographic
- diseases
- psychological administration
- compliance
- environmental
