Compliance
refers to the degree to which a patient follows the directions of his or her healthcare provider
What is non-compliance caused by?
a. not understanding instructions
b. medication may be too expensive
c. side effects creating problems
Quality Assurance
establishing high standards in patient care and developing professional practices towards those standards
Caution
OTC meds must be taken w/ same caution as prescription read instructions
Safe Dose
which is noted on OTC label
Interactions
OTC meds should be evaluated to make sure drug to drug interactions won’t occur
Allergies
verify that allergies aren’t listed in the ingredients and interactions won’t occur
Home Use
can cause patients to delay seeking medical care
Dosage
can be low, not therapeutic depending on patient condition
