Metaproterenol Sulfate
Alupent
Class: Beta 2 adrenergic agonist, bronchodilator.
Action: bronchial smooth muscle relaxation.
Indications: asthma, COPD, reversible bronchospasm.
Contraindications: tachydysrhythmias, hypersensitivity, digitalis toxicity.
Side Effects: tremor, headache, paroxidal bronchospasm, CP, HTN, cough.
Dose: 2 puffs MDI adults only.
Methylprednisolone
Solu-Medrol
Class: Corticosteroid
Action: beta-adrenergic agonist, suppresses inflammation.
Indications: acute spinal chord injury, anaphylaxis, asthma/COPD, ped. respiratory distress.
Contraindications: premature infants, systemic fungal infections, GI bleeds.
Side Effects: euphoria, seizure, increased ICP, CHF, HTN, hyperkalemia, hypernatremia.
Dose: 125mg adults, 2mg/kg peds.
Bumex
Bumetanide
Class: Loop Diuretic
Action: Rapid/short acting, inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the ascending Loop of Henle.
Indications: CHF, pulmonary edema.
Contraindications: Sulfo hypersensitivity, hypovolemia, anuria, electrolyte imbalances, hepatic coma.
Side Effects: Orthostatic hypotension, electrolyte depletion, ECG changes, metabolic alkalosis.
Dose: 0.5-1mg/kg slow IVP, adults only.
Racemic Epinephrine
Micronefrin
Class: Sympathomimetic
Action: Beta 2 stimulator, bronchodilator, histamine inhibitor.
Indications: bronchospasm, croup, asthma, laryngeal edema.
Contraindications: HTN, cardiovascular disease, epiglottitis.
Side Effects: Headache, palpitations, tachycardia, dysrthmias.
Dose: 2 puffs MDI adults, 0.25mL via neb for peds.
Etomidate
Amidate
Class: Nonbarbituate hypnotic, anesthesia induction.
Action: Short acting hypnotic, acts on reticular activating system.
Indications: Intubation or cardioversion.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, labor/delivery.
Side Effects: Apnea, respiratory depression, hypo/hyperventilation, hypo/hypertension.
Dose: 0.2-0.6mg/kg adults, 0.2-0.4mg/kg peds.
