How many types of intervals are there and what are they?
Three: Normal, Close and Double interval
What is the length of a marching step and a half-step?
A marching step is 30 inches, and a half-step is 15 inches.
Explain the movement of each squad in platoon formation on the command “Close Ranks, March”.
1st rank takes four 15-inch steps backward.
2nd rank takes two 15-inch steps backward.
3rd rank stands fast.
4th rank takes one 30-inch step forward.

How does a Soldier Break Ranks properly when the individual’s name is called?
Assumes the position of attention and replies, “Here, Sergeant (Sir).” then takes one (15-inch) step backward, halts, faces to the right (left) in marching, and exits the formation by marching to the nearest flank. The Soldier does not look left or right. Once the individual has cleared the formation, the Soldier begins to double-time and halts two steps in front of and centered on the platoonn sergeant.
